Re: Opera: for the elite or not?

Attending an opera performance is not expensive, when compared with other live entertainments. The cheapest ticket in ROH is 13.00 pounds sterling (standing) and one could get a seat in the gallery for as low as 25 pounds. That's a lot less than going to a football match or a pop concert. The Rape of Lucia

See what they have done in the name of modernity? It was never mentioned in the original by Walter Scot nor by Donizetti when he composed the opera that Lucia was pregnant. This director woman should be tarred and featured as an example to others who abuse her role http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainm...

Re: Gegham Grigorian

Sad news. In memory, maybe not the most refined of tenors , but he forms a very elite band of singers whose career is given to entertaining those of us who wish we could, but can only aspire to sing. Re: All about that bass...

Mother Russia produces the best bass of this planet. It has something to do with their language.
Leonid Kharitonov is a great singer and the chorus is every bit as good as the soloist.

Re: Sara Scuderi

Geoff wrote:I have known of Sara Scuderi since before she appeared in the DVD - 'Tosca's Kiss' ( which I recommend to all opera goers, but which is noticeably cut from the original documentary).
Can you provide more information on the original documentary?
Thanks

Re: Grandi-Tenori reunion thread

I followed Grandi-Tenori since its inception to its last days. It was sad that it disappeared from the scene. But like the phoenix, it is rising from the ashes.
