Re: Tongue Position
Yes, this is a new channel created by Scott Flaherty who is a wonderful person (I met him on one occasion and he was very kind and complimentary) and from what I have been told by friends who work with him, an excellent teacher. Scott was very close to his teacher and has restored very faithfully hi...

Re: Tenor Andrew Owens
I will refrain from being too complimentary as my bias has been shown earlier in this thread. I will say this however, if the reviewers had nice things to say about Tessier and not for Owens, based solely on these samples Seattle Opera has provided, I have to wonder what kind of hallucinogenic those...

Re: Tenor Andrew Owens
If you go here: https://soundcloud.com/seattle-opera/sets/maria-stuarda
You will here many excerpts from the performances.
You can hear Owens (I especially recommend the love duet), and indeed you can listen to Tessier.

Re: Tongue Position
What intrigued me of that particular character was that some clips of his alleged students have nice voices with nice amounts of squillo, for one thing. I don't hear that a lot these days. If it's not too much trouble for you, would you mind posting examples or links to these clips so we can listen...

Re: Pre-50's versus post-50's singing
Was this mentioned above? --> there was a documentary made in the UK with Villazon at the helm, and in that video he records his voice on gramophone technology and the results are very telling. While it didn't hide all his flaws, it did make his voice astonishingly more clarion and chiaroscuro when ...

Re: Joseph Calleja
I am not going to comment on Joseph specifically. I know Joseph a little bit so I have biases (in one direction or another!) that I simply can't avoid, somewhat making my opinion meaningless. What I will say is this though, and I think it a very serious point that gets almost completely ignored by s...

Re: Grandi-Tenori reunion thread
Pawel is omnipresent; indeed he is the genius behind everything OV. Gioacchino is way too busy enjoying a very successful teaching career, which includes running a very successful opera program and festival in Sicily and Tuscany. He is always available for discussion on facebook on pretty much any t...

Re: What's the best voice you've heard live?
His is a very interesting situation. Firstly, and I think this needs to be weighed heavily, he is a creature of comfort who really does not like to travel. He adores home, and he really preferred to stay singing in Italy, and very often in Palermo and Catania etc. as often as he could. Indeed, when ...

Re: Grandi-Tenori reunion thread
Let me just say I am very thankful those old grandi-tenori topics are no longer accessible ... lest I would have to go into a witness protection program!

Re: Tenor Andrew Owens
Valid points, TifosoBonisolli. I didn't mean to demonize you or your opinion. My apologies if my choice of language came across unduly critical. Your point of view on this issue has tremendous merit, and I concur wholeheartedly not to push singers into repertoire above their natural endowments. This...
