Re: Sara Scuderi

A lot of information can be found on Ferracuti. His biography is in Kutsch-Riemens and hence on Operissimo: http://hosting.operissimo.com/triboni/exec?method=com.operissimo.artist.webDisplay&id=ffcyoieagxaaaaabbaaq&xsl=webDisplay&searchStr=ferracuti . The invaluable Robert Johannesson has his discog...

Re: Ever changed your mind on a singer rec versus live?

À propos of Calleja, there is a new thread named "Joseph Calleja" - the recording posted there is like a summary of all Calleja problems. Definitely no "too clear" singing, and some rather awful squeezing, as well...

Re: Joseph Calleja

The three comments on Youtube say it all - his rendition of this aria is a complete failure, unfortunately. It's an example for his chewing and pushing (particularly the high) notes instead of placing them straightly and forwardly - just look at the grimaces he is forced to make to reach those notes...

Re: Tenor Andrew Owens

Aureliano - you almost seem to be mentoring Owens, or at least to know him personally, so may I ask you something? It's really kind of bizarre that I seem to have been seen, on this thread, as the one who is against Owens; the opposite is true, he is actually one of the new tenors whom I liked best ...

Re: Top 5 tenors today

Wow, you didn't bash Calleja and Fabioano! No, why should I? Actually, I like Calleja to a certain extent, and had he not already been on Pantenor's list, I'd probably have included him on mine (but it's boring somehow if all of us nominate the same singers, isn't it?). I almost fully concur with L...

Do I? I'm afraid I don't. You sound as if I had proposed a competition in drawing Muhammad cartoons... while I thought (and think) that my suggestion was actually quite innocent in comparison.

Re: Tenor Andrew Owens

Well, as soon as I'll have the chance to hear him again, I'll take it anyway, because even as it was, I really liked his singing. I just cannot imagine him in a major theater - he'd need to multiply his voice by five or six, something that is near-impossible (but not totally, and if he is lucky enou...

Re: Falsi Miti

We need more false myths! What if we, with the gentle permission of the OP (who never showed up on this thread again, anyway, and wouldn't thus seem intrigued by the discussion s/he has started), opened another can of worms and extended the topic to miti falsi from the present (starting in the 1970...

Re: Top 5 tenors today

Vargas is 55... and have you ever heard him in the last, say, 10 years? His voice is a wreck, and by now, he's performing only most irregularly since he's forced to cancel most every performance he's scheduled for. Flórez would be fine if he had not gone totally crazy (singing roles like Arnold, Wer...

Do you think this is because he is oversinging to compensate for a naturally small voice?
I don't think so. He doesn't seem to oversing - his voice is just, the beautiful tone that he's producing notwithstanding, ill-placed in some way.
