Re: Dearth of capable singers
And just for good measure, here's another tenor who impresses me. Whether he has operatic aspirations I don't know but on listening to this Schubert, there's a lot to like about him. I'm still convinced that the operatic voices are out there but as I've said before ... Opera Politics. https://www.yo...

Re: Dearth of capable singers
As an example of capable singers, I'm happy to champion the cause of Peter Guijsbertson, who is steadliy making a name for himself but not quickly enough in opera IMO. Then again I remember the words of celebrated bass Peter Dawson, when it came to opera, "too much effort for too little money.&...

Re: Trying to find Björling singing «Pourquoi me réveiller».
Just as a point of interest, I didn't know that Nouvion had died but a quick look at 'Historical Tenors' indicate that he passed away suddenly on 18th June 2016. I didn't like him nor him me. 'Historical Tenors' is an excellent reference site however but that's it.

Christmas 2017
I'm probably not in the correct part of Forum but......As the year draws to a close, I would like to wish a "Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year" not only to all in Forum but to Pawel and every conrtibutor who have made this such a comfortable, happy and readable site. Now here comes...

Re: Dearth of capable singers
Jim old lad, I agree with you (I'm terrified to do anything else but yes, I do! a touch of humour ). I also agree with Tf.B in his follow up post. Unfortunately with the passing of years standards change and the operatic world changes with it. There are good voices out there, I'm sure of it. Commerc...

Re: Dmitri Hvorostovski
Jim, I thought that I had just posted a reply but it doesn't seem to have gone through. I've been away from things due to serious family illnesses so the death of this great baritone still comes as a shock even though I was aware that he was seriously ill (brain cancer). Like you, I recall very clea...

Verdi - Nabucco - 'Salgo gia...'
Ladies and Gents, liike me, I suppose that many of you have not seen Verdi's 'Nabucco' in a live performance although it's given it Italy fairly frequently by the look of things. It's the usual Verdi fare I suppose, given that the chorus 'Va Pensiero' is so well known. Thanks to Youtube and the numb...

Re: French opera sung by in foreign language
I think I agree with you. French is not the easiest of languages for non-French singers so if I may, I would like to offer a yardstick by way of the superb Alain Vanzo. Non-French voices would do well to listen (and learn) from this exponent of elegant singing in French (his own language of course)....
