A generation of the musical public grew up and had its taste shaped under the influence of Beniamino Gigli’s recordings; and among them a generation of young tenors blossomed under this same influence into artistic maturity…
Overall, a very nice article about an absolutely superb tenor. You know, for many, many years I couldn't get past his sobs, gulps and unneccessary aspirates and let's face it, his recordings of Mozart were pretty dreadful. However, the little guy wasn't going to change and he was possessed with floods of golden tone. As an early teenager I was fortunate enough to hear him in one of his farewell concerts. He would sing in grand theatres and draughty concert halls even if there was half an audience (which there never was). A legendary tenor.

Geoff.
