Gegham Grigorian is dead. One of the Soviet tenors who had a very good nascent career in the west before being confined by a travel ban. Did eventually make it when the wall came down. Reportedly died of cancer.

Sad news. In memory, maybe not the most refined of tenors , but he forms a very elite band of singers whose career is given to entertaining those of us who wish we could, but can only aspire to sing. Here are these:

He did very well in the original full version of Forza conducted by Gergiev. I read on the introduction label on the DVD that he took part in a competition in the La Scala, but it did not mention that he was prohibited from traveling outside the USSR after that. It was a real shame.
