Miguel Fleta

Post by Opera Vivrà »

Miguel Fleta sings 'Por el humo se sabe' from Amadeo Vives' zarzuela 'Doña Francisquita'. Miguel Fleta was the very first Calaf in Turandot's premiere in Milan, on Sunday the 25th of April, 1926. He was known for a steely and masculine voice, which he could reduce to a whisper - a master of the diminuendo.

Oh ! I agree. Fleta's career was tragically short and even by the late 1920's his voice was in decline, but what a tenor. Thank God his records mean that he is not forgotten.

Geoff.
