"The Mexican tenor Javier Camarena has told the Vienna State Opera that he can’t sing in Donizetti’s La Fille du régiment in January because he’s saving his voice to make a CD.

He has also pulled out of Don Pasquale in May."

I suppose that in today's operatic climate, this has to be a first and in such circumstances his CD had better be something pretty exceptional. I shouldn't think that operatic impresarios are all that worried as there are plenty of tenors who will be willing to step into Senor whats-his-name's shoes and do a perfectly acceptable if not better job. Anyway, that's what I think.

Like Geoff said, I'm sure they'll find an adequate replacement. A bit of a diva-like behaviour from Camarena, if you ask me. Would have never expected that from him.
