Least musically boring opera overall?

Postby Pantenor » 15 Oct 2016, 08:35

What is your top 5 of least boring operas? Many operas have great moments, but also a lot of musically boring parts. I find Boheme, Rigoletto, Un Ballo in Maschera, Pagliacci and Il Trovatore to have the fewest boring parts... what's your list? I find my list disappointing as plenty parts of La Boheme still bore me...

While I'd probably have Rigoletto, Ballo and Trovatore on my list, as well, here are five operas beyond your list that never bore me:
- Jevgenij Onegin
- Simon Boccanegra
- Lucia di Lammermoor
- Cavalleria rusticana
- L'italiana in Algeri

I am curious what you will list. I hope Negenabri doesn't mind. To be very honest, most operas bore me. I only like bits and pieces. I find La Boheme very boring. Just like the highlights.

How are you not bored by Onegin, Lammermoor and Boccanegra?

As a red herring to get people to accept La Sonnambula as a least musically boing opera.

But seriously, Martha is full of beautiful melodies and delightful music and singing throughout.

And finally I am biased because these are my two favorite operas.

How about Verdi's "Attila" & Boito's "Mefistofele" ?
