Discussion of contemporary singers: Jonas Kaufmann, Juan Diego Flórez, Anna Netrebko, etc.

Some people say Giacomini was inconsistent, but I have quite a few of his live performances, and they are all outstanding. I have always liked the "leather-lunged" tenors, such as Tito Del Bianco, Jonas Kaufmann, Giacomini, etc. If a singer is musical, but has a rather baritonal quality, it just makes them a bit unique, as to the sound you normally expect from a usual tenor. Giacomini, it seems, was overlooked by some of the great opera houses...perhaps because he was too much competition for the companies' reigning favorites. I don't think Domingo would have enjoyed Giacomini or Cecchele doing "Otello" on "his" turf at the Met, as an example. A fine singer who probably didn't get the notoriety he should have during his career.
